So, I have a serious weakness…sweets. I crave cookies, cakes, and ice cream like nobody’s business. Oh, and I love donuts…and peanut butter m&m’s, which is my real addiction.
Thankfully, the whole lactose and gluten intolerant thing has helped me not weigh 1,000 lbs. I also actually have really good self-control because staying at a healthy weight is very important to me. My stomach can’t handle a lot of sweets in once sitting, either.
Now that gluten intolerance and Celiac disease awareness has grown so much, many restaurants and stores have great options for people like me. One of best places I have found is Our CupCakery in downtown Dublin which has the most amazing chocolate cupcakes and peanut butter icing. Sunny Street Cafe has the best gluten free cookies. My favorite is the snicker doodle cookie but the chocolate chip cookie is also delicious. Recently, I discovered a dedicated gluten free bakery in Bexley called Cherbourg Bakery and they have seriously addicting chocolate donuts among other delectable treats.
And can I just say, thank the good Lord that M&M’s are gluten free! (pictured below is an almost-empty bag and I have only had them for 2 weeks….and that’s WITH self-control.)
Lactose free products are also becoming easier to find and I truly enjoy a big bowl of Lactaid brand ice cream. I also enjoy homemade milk shakes with said ice cream. The best way to eat it though is atop a gluten free Pizookie (skillet cookie) from BJ’s Restaurant.
