Baby Products We Love | Columbus Ohio Photographer

Before our son was born, I asked moms on Facebook to tell me what their must-have baby items were. Now, we have created our own list of baby items we love.

Josiah loves looking at his teddy bears swing back and forth while he is in his glider

Josiah sleeps best when swaddled up. We love the convenience of the zip up swaddle.

We have a messy eater and these Tommee Tippee Bibs are by far the best. They fit better than most, they cover more, and they have an extra thick dribble catcher around the chin. We also love all of our other Tommee Tippee products.

Josiah loves his white noise machine to help him sleep. We love that it is battery operated and portable.

During the second week of my son’s life, he hit a growth spurt that caused him to want to eat almost constantly. Due to his desire to eat every time I got near him and because of my own recovery, I was unfortunately unable to photograph my own son’s newborn pictures. Thankfully, I was able to find a local photographer with an opening. Christa of Gable Photography was kind enough to squeeze us in for a last minute newborn session. Here are a few of my favorite images from his session.

Surviving the First Two Weeks | Columbus Ohio Photographer

Newborn baby | Surviving the First Two Weeks | Columbus Ohio Photographer

During the first two weeks as new parents, we learned a lot. For example, we learned that we can go a lot longer without sleep than we ever thought possible. We also learned how blessed we are to have each other. I have fallen even more in love with my husband since sharing the experience of becoming parents. There is no way I could have done this without him.

In the first two weeks while I was still recovering from child birth, Jay helped me in more ways than I can count. From warming up meals and running errands to feeding me while I fed our son, there was nothing he wouldn’t do. He was also a wonderful emotional support while I adjusted to being a mom. If I had to describe my husband in just one word, it would be selfless. My favorite part of those first two weeks was watching how amazing my husband was with our son. He loved taking photos of him, holding him while he slept, and simply watching everything he did. It was clear that he was completely in love with him.

Below is a collage of several of the cell phone pictures Jay took of Josiah. Note: not all photos were taken in the first two weeks.

Our Birth Story | Columbus Ohio Photographer

On Friday, September 8, 2017, the contractions began. By the time Jay arrived home from work, they were only about two minutes apart and lasted for about 45 seconds. At that point, we decided to go ahead and make our way to the hospital.

When we arrived, I had not progressed far enough so they instructed me to walk around the hospital. After several trips around the inside and outside of the hospital, and a few episodes of getting sick, it was finally time to be re-evaluated. Unfortunately, I had not progressed any further during that hour. However, my blood pressure was very high so the doctor on call decided to go ahead and admit me and speed up labor by introducing Pitocin. By the time I reached the delivery room and they officially admitted me, I had progressed enough on my own that they decided I wouldn’t end up needing the Pitocin after all. About one and a half hours and four attempts, I finally had an IV. Once I received enough fluid, they eventually started my epidural. I rested for about an hour and a half after that before the nurse checked me again and asked if I was ready to push. After the first push the nurse called the doctor and told her she needed to get there right away. Approximately nine minutes and four pushes later, Josiah James Lytle was born at 3:41 am on September 9, 2017. He weighed 7 lbs 15 oz and measured 20 inches long. The hospital staff was wonderful and overall I had an excellent birth experience.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers and support, and to all my wonderful clients who have been so understanding during my maternity leave. I am looking forward to the rest of 2017 and can’t wait for some new photo opportunities in 2018.

At 30 weeks pregnant I talked my husband into following me around at a park, in the heat, to take my maternity pictures. He was such a good sport! I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband. He did an awesome job taking the photos and I edited them. Now that I am off work I finally have time to post them.  I hope to get around to editing and posting the pictures of us together before our little man arrives.

Baby Bump | 18-Weeks Pregnant | Galloway Ohio Photographer

Last Thursday, April 13th 2017, I hit the 18-week mark in my first pregnancy. My little man finally decided to make his presence known and now mommy is starting to show. I currently have just a little baby bump because Josiah is only about the size of an artichoke. He is about 5 1/2 inches long and ways approximately 6.7 ounces. We get to see him again in a little over a week for his anatomy ultrasound. I can’t wait!

My 1st Trimester | Galloway Ohio Photographer

My 1st Trimester | Galloway Ohio Photographer

On Friday, January 6th, around 3:15 pm, I found out that we were expecting our first child. When my husband, Jay, arrived at home about an hour later, I told him the good news. He was just as excited as I was.

The first sign of pregnancy symptoms began when I was about 5 1/2 weeks along, with nausea and fatigue. As the first trimester progressed, the nausea grew worse and I got a sick a few times. I had an awful taste in my mouth 24/7 and I always seemed tired.

At around 8 weeks, I had my OB coordinators appointment where the nurse practitioner discussed the do’s and dont’s of pregnancy.  At that time, she also gave me an estimated due date of September 14th. At 9 weeks, I had my first ultrasound where the tech confirmed the due date of September 14th. We also got to hear the heartbeat for the very first time. Our baby had a strong healthy heartbeat of 156 bmp. At the 10 week mark, I took a genetic blood test. February 24th was my first doctor’s appointment where we once again heard our little peanut’s heartbeat. On Monday, February 27th we closed on our new house and made the move. Then, on March 12th we hosted a gender reveal party for our family and friends to announce the gender of our baby. It’s a boy!

The 2nd trimester started off with a bang. I came down with some sort of a stomach virus all while my husband was passing a kidney stone and we were travelling to NYC for a work-related trip. I was finally feeling better and we had a few good days in NYC. When we arrived home, my allergies flared up really bad and I couldn’t breathe through my nose for several days. My allergies are finally under control and mild heartburn has begun. My belly bump is starting to show, which makes finding the right clothes a little more difficult, but we are thankful for our little blessing and can’t wait until September.

House Progress | Dublin Ohio Photographer – Galloway Ohio Photographer

It’s been a little while since I posted a house update so I decided it was time. Plus, we got big news regarding the time frame. As you can see from the pictures, we now have drywall and a garage. The contractor says all the work happens really quickly at this point. We will have our final walk through of the house on February 22nd and we will be closing on February 27th. We are so excited to get moving!

Windows! | Dublin Ohio Photographer – Galloway Ohio Photographer

The pictures don’t look a whole lot different this week but a lot has been done. We now have windows and temporary construction doors (behind the plastic tarp). They also poured the concrete in our basement and garage. The plumping is almost done and they even installed the water heater and bathtubs and started the duct work. Before we know it, we will be having our pre-drywall meeting. Yay, so exciting!
